A market in the morning, a bookshop in the afternoon, dinner that leaves room for one more drink. Ruzafa brings together many of the things we look for in a city: food, independent shops, design and reasons to wander.
This guide gathers 15 places in and around Ruzafa, Valencia, from Spanish tapas bars and Japanese cooking to vintage clothing and mid-century furniture. Pick a few that suit your day; there is no need to turn the neighbourhood into a checklist.
Where to eat in Ruzafa
1. Café Saxo
Carrer del Doctor Sumsi, 26
A Spanish bar-restaurant for a meal built around good ingredients: ham, tomatoes, preserved seafood and wine. Saxo belongs on the list for its straightforward approach to eating and drinking. Check the current menu rather than planning your visit around a particular dish.
2. Los Madriles Taberna
Avinguda del Regne de València, 48
Traditional Spanish cooking with a contemporary approach. Cocido, spoon dishes, tapas and rice are central to the menu, alongside vermouth and aperitifs. Choose it when you want a substantial meal, or begin with a drink and see where lunch takes you. For reservations, contact the restaurant by phone.
3. 2 Estaciones
Carrer del Pintor Salvador Abril, 28
Seasonal Mediterranean cooking in a small bistro-style dining room with an open kitchen. Run by chefs Alberto Alonso and Mar Soler, 2 Estaciones offers contemporary dishes and set menus that change with the seasons. Book ahead and check the latest menu: the changing kitchen is part of the appeal.
4. Hotaru
Carrer de Cadis, 48
Japanese cooking with Mediterranean influences, accompanied by a selection of wines and sakes. Hotaru is a choice for a sit-down lunch or dinner when you want a different direction from the neighbourhood’s tapas bars. Check the current menu and reserve directly.
5. Bouet
Gran Via de les Germanies, 34
Bouet brings Mediterranean cooking and international influences to the northern edge of Ruzafa. Its menu spans dishes to share, with wines and cocktails giving you reasons to stay at the table. A useful option when your evening starts near Gran Via and continues into the neighbourhood.
6. Goya Gallery
Carrer de Borriana, 3
Just beyond Ruzafa, Goya Gallery deserves a place on the list for its rice dishes. The menu includes dry and creamy rice preparations, alongside Valencian and Mediterranean cooking. The original Goya bar opened here in 1950.
Reserve ahead and discuss your rice order when booking. The restaurant specifies that meat and vegetable rice dishes must be ordered with the reservation or by noon on the day.
7. La Cooperativa del Mar
Carrer del Literat Azorín, 18
A former fishmonger’s turned into a small bar centred on seafood conservas and Portuguese wines. The old counter and tiles give the space a connection to its earlier life. Come for preserved seafood, a glass of wine and a meal made of several small plates.

8. The Green Book
Carrer de Sevilla, 27
A cocktail bar with a speakeasy concept inspired by clandestine bookshops. The library setting gives it a different mood from a street-side terrace. Keep it in mind for cocktails after dinner, and check its latest opening days before visiting.
9. La Bella de Cádiz
Carrer de Cadis, 54
A cocktail bar with an eclectic vintage interior: antiques, decorative objects and details competing for your attention. It fits naturally into an evening on Calle Cádiz, especially if you want the room itself to be part of the experience.
Bookshops, markets and independent shops
10. Ubik Café
Carrer del Literat Azorín, 13
A bookshop and café that lets browsing turn into a longer stop. Books share the space with food, coffee and drinks, while the programme includes reading clubs, concerts and other events. Check the current listings if you want to build your afternoon around something happening there.
11. Mercado de Ruzafa
Plaça del Baró de Cortés
The neighbourhood’s working market, recognisable by its colourful facade. Inside, stalls sell fruit, vegetables, fish, meat and other produce: a useful stop for anyone staying somewhere with a kitchen, and a way to see the ingredients behind the city’s food.
Visit in the morning. The published schedule is Monday to Saturday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.; individual stalls and holiday hours may vary.
12. Gnomo
Carrer de Cuba, 32
A design and gift shop for illustration, stationery, decorative objects and small discoveries. It is an easy browsing stop when you want something to take home beyond the usual souvenir. This guide refers to the Calle Cuba shop; Gnomo also has an address on Calle Alta.
13. Madame Mim
Carrer de Puerto Rico, 30
Vintage clothing, accessories and unusual objects in a shop with close ties to film and theatre. Madame Mim sells and rents pieces for productions as well as welcoming browsers. Think of it as a cabinet of curiosities: somewhere to look slowly rather than arrive with a fixed shopping list.
14. Fiveo
Carrer del Pare Perera, 3, B1
Streetwear, sneakers and accessories from a selection of contemporary brands. Fiveo offers a different kind of browsing from the vintage and interiors shops on this list. Its official website confirms the Valencia store at this address; check online for current brands and stock.
15. Heirloom
Avinguda del Regne de València, 61
A disclosure before the recommendation: Heirloom is also our shop. It focuses on vintage mid-century furniture, lighting and objects, selected and restored in Valencia.
For readers drawn to interiors and objects with a history, it adds a furniture stop to a day otherwise spent among restaurants, books and clothes.
