Allex Aguilera

Stage Director and Set Designer

Allex Aguilera began his professional career at a very young age. To discover his roots, we travel back to the time when he lived in Switzerland. In 1993, at the Grand Théâtre, he first became involved in the arts as a stage manager and later as an assistant stage director. His natural attraction to classical music—and especially to the voice—led him to study operatic singing at the music conservatory, located just a few steps from the Grand Théâtre.

His relationship with water goes far beyond swimming. What truly fascinates him is the feeling of being in contact with water, regardless of the setting. He remembers the beaches of Brazil with particular fondness, especially Ilha Grande in Rio de Janeiro. This small yet remarkable island has one great advantage over the others: all its beaches remain unspoilt. It can only be reached by boat, and its small village is a place where bicycles are the only form of transport. It is a paradise just a few kilometres from the bustle of Rio. One of his favourite beaches on the island is Lopes Mendes, which stands out for its white sand and crystal-clear waters.

For sunbathing, he once again recommends Ilha Grande, particularly Lopes Mendes Beach and the Blue Lagoon.

Such is his passion for the island that he considers it his own personal hideaway. His reasons are clear: it is not a conventional tourist destination. Most visitors go as far as Angra dos Reis and overlook this beautiful place. For a stroll through the small village, his outfit of choice would be a T-shirt and shorts. On his visits to the beach, he usually carries a backpack containing a few books, opera scores, his iPad and mineral water. Suntan lotion and sun protection are absolute essentials.

The Mïau Originals collection evokes many feelings in him, but above all peace, rest and relaxation—like a Mozart symphony or sonata. He also sees it as a collection that can be worn by everyone. In his own words, “Good taste is for everyone.” If he had to give one of our pieces to someone, he would choose himself, opting for a pair of shorts and a swimsuit.

When it comes to the artistic figures who inspire him, his choices are clear: Tom Ford, Dries Van Noten, Shigeru Ban, Zaha Hadid, Mozart and Richard Strauss. A cinematic moment involving water that particularly inspires him is La Piscine, Jacques Deray’s French film starring Alain Delon, Romy Schneider and Jane Birkin.

When we ask which place in the world he would most like to escape to, he answers without hesitation: the Cíes Islands, for their magnificent Rodas Beach. Finally, he makes it clear that he would recommend Mïau to all his friends, especially those with a passion for travel.

Meows of gratitude to Allex Aguilera.

Welcome to the distinguished world of Mïau.
